Top Design: Ondine Karady

I am a big fan of Bravo's Top Design. I think this show is much more geared towards the crowd that likes and appreciates the interior design magazines. I was able to watch my TiVo version of the show this morning, and to my delight one of the contestants is the designer behind an advertisement that I have admired for years (I believe the ad is for Armstrong floors). The designer is Ondine Karady, and her background is in set design. She is one of the designers who created the beautiful interiors on the Sex and the City show, and now has her own design firm.

Here is a picture of the ad. It has so many elements that I admire - the billowing silk curtains (in coral, which I adore), the large, arched French doors, the symmetrical mirrors and lamps, the streamlined sofa flanked with unmatched chairs (it softens the symmetry of the lamps and mirrors). I also spy the Barbara Barry for McGuire Script chairs on the side. I love that is is a formal room being used in a very casual way.

I think Ondine will be one of the last designers standing if her portfolio is any indication...we will see!

  1. Thank you for sharing this information. I have a feeling she will be one of my favorite contestants!

  2. you are the best detective! are hyou a scorpio? the room is really gorgeous - I love the drapes too but would call them a warm pink!! in real ife they must look coral.

  3. You know, in the add they looked more coral, and the walls looked more cream. In this picture, the drapes do look warm pink, and the wall looks peach! This shot is from Ondine's web page.

Not a scorpio, I'm a libra! Are scorpios known for research?

  4. i love this pattern in a brick patio...i've never noticed the pattern in a firebox...good info... Fay

  5. I agree! Ondine is one of my favorite designers on the show.

  6. So lovely! Ondine is one of my favorites as well.

  7. Your posts always inspire!
Of course, I never saw the ad so I am now biased to the pink drapes. They are so dramatic in such a tall space.
As always, thank you for sharing.

  8. I have always loved that ad. It is a beautiful room. For some reason it has always reminded me of a New Orleans home. I had NO idea Ondine was behind that...love little tidbits like that!! Thanks.
