Blog subscription

I just realized this morning that I am about to reach my 100th post. I have thoroughly enjoyed my adventure in blogging, and I have every intention of continuing to post about the things that inspire me in the world of design, architecture, art, and real estate. I seem to have settled into a once a week post, but since my posts are at an unpredictable frequency, I encourage you to subscribe to my blog (at the upper right section of my blog). This way, feedburner will e-mail you when I post a new entry. All e-mail addresses are kept private and are not used for any purpose other than to automatically update you on posts to "Things That Inspire".

A picture that inspired me this morning. It has nothing to do with this post, I just like it and can't bear the thought of a post without a picture! Interior design by (of course) Suzanne Kasler.

As always, thank you for reading my blog!

  3. Hi
    I like that picture too!
I wonder if they designed the interior around that painting (color scheme) or bought the painting because it matched?

I love that painting, it's so beautiful in that room. Don't mean the question to sound snarky I just always wonder about those kinds of things.

  4. Hi Cindy-

I have read that this designer will often start with white, then use inspiration from a certain object (could be a fabric, a vase, a painting) and use colors from that object in accents throughout the room. I would not be surprised if the painting is the basis for the inspiration in the room! The painting is by Dusty Griffith, and his work is often featured in rooms and houses designed by Suzanne Kasler.

  10. Your blog is one of my favorites. You always put so much thought into your posts and you feature the most beautiful photographs. The new Elle Decor came in the mail yesterday and it has a feature on Atlanta which has a picture of The Swan House. It reminded me of you. :)

  11. These interiors are beautiful, but what kind of people live in these places? How do children, dogs, cats, friends, etc. fit in these rooms? I recently watched "All the King's Men " on DVD, and I was stuck by the beauty, grace and weight of the Louisiana home and its interiors (and exteriors) featured in this movie. These are the kinds of rooms where men and women sip on bourbons (or water) and think and talk about philosophy , politics, history, literature, sex...you name it!There is a "seriousness of purpose" about the design, unlike the pretty but frothy rooms featured in most magazines today. How does one grab a book and something to drink, one's dog or cat, one's child, loved one, or friend, perhaps, and engage in a meaningful dialogue in these rooms?I don't get it.

  12. Olivine, I thought your post was though provoking. I often think about the some of the stately homes that I have seen in Britain, and how the decor stays the same for decades. I think that a lot of the decor featured in the magazines will be redone within 10 years. Perhaps these are people who can afford it, who see recovering the sofa the same as buying a new coat. SO, maybe it does not matter if the kids/dogs/friends spill on the perfectly cream sofa. Anyway, interesting to think about.
