New on the market in Atlanta

An interesting home came on the market this week. It is the home of country singer Kenny Rogers, and is situated in the heart of Buckhead. Listing price: $7.95 million. Rogers bought the home less than two years ago, and has spent most of that time renovating. According to an article in the Atlanta Journal-Constitution, he is moving to a 150 acre estate in Nicholson, Georgia.

The style is not really typical of Buckhead; Rogers calls it 'high-end eclectic'. It will be interesting to see who puchases this home. There are many homes on the market priced above $5 million, and they are sitting on the market. In the past few years homes in the Buckhead area have been priced more and more aggressively, and I have noticed a definite trend in prices either dropping, or houses being priced more moderately. I have a feeling this estate will take a long time to find the right buyer, what do you think?

  1. It reminds of the Lionel Ritchie home. Overdecorated but still trying not to be feminine, and fundementally lacking in some element of personal charm. Of course you've already demonstrated that home listing photos and decorator presentation photos are different beasts, but my first reaction is YIKES! I can only hope he doesn't ruin the land he bought. Country huh.

  2. B - I like that characterization - overdecorated but trying not to be feminine. Perfect!!! You are spot on. I tried to be neutral in my text, but this is definitely not my style!

I forgot to note the price - $7.95 million.

  3. Mmmmmm......too tricked up for this Aussie gal! Kenny & Mrs. Kenny maybe need a gentle reminder that sometimes less really is more. Thank you for your lovely Blog, it's a must on my daily list.

  4. Too much of everything. The outside is better then the inside. This one will sit a while.

  5. Wasn't this the house that was formerly owned by a Wendy's franchisee? Hence the name "Casa Wendy"? (Although I'm sure Rogers must have renamed it.)

  6. oooh, I do not like this house. surprised? The one room I really dislike is the master bed room with the heavily coved ceiling! What is that about? And each cove is lighted, I'm sure. The dining room is a stinker too! It's a well done house though - it may go fast to a young entrepreneur.

  7. you were very neutral in your text- i thought "It will be interesting to see who purchases this home." was an incredibly tactful way of saying "who in the hell would buy this hot mess of a house"!

  8. M21 - always trying to avoid a lawsuit, especially after Design Smack's horrible experience with the set designers threats! I don't want Kenny Rogers hunting me down!

The tax records are finally up again (they were doing maintenance all weekend). Kenny bought this place for $2.8 less than two years ago, and completely renovated even though it was only 9 years old.

  9. I will not be the least bit surprised to see this on the pages of AD - it is right up their alley.

  10. I agree this house is way too over the top for my liking. Those dark coved ceilings are hideous!

Having said that I always love to peek inside the cribs of the rich and famous.

  13. I was so happy to see I wasn't the only one who finds it garish. You can't buy taste, that's for dang sure.

I don't know what it is about these rich and famous homes - they are always so damned tacky and over-the-top. It makes you realize that most of these famous folks are just regular joes who haven't got a drop of good taste. Still, you'd think they'd get lucky and hire a designer sufficiently trained to instill some class.

In a way, it must be hard to be loaded with cash because you don't have to have any retraint or need to edit. Everything can be lavish, garish, too much...

    Fun post! ; )

  14. I have to agree...this looks like a model home to me. In other words...generic without a lot of personality/soul. Usually even if a home is not decorated in my personal taste, I can appreciate it if I feel like it reflects a personality. I'm not seeing it here. JMHO. Loved the comment about Architectural Digest...right on!

  17. Oh my, could his home be any larger? I love the landscaping! I agree that it is very over decorated. Don't see any real sense of personal style!

  20. At least we're all in agreement!
Unfortunately, this type of decorating is way too common here in Florida - there are way too many people with a lot of money and no taste.
