New on the Market in Atlanta: Southern Accents Top 10 Kitchen

When walking my dog this week, I was intrigued to see that a home I have long admired was just put on the market. The home is in one of the most beautiful parts of Atlanta, in the heart of Buckhead. Built only a few years ago (the architects were top Atlanta firm Pak-Heydt), the style is described as 'Dutch Colonial'. Here is a view of the front of the home (this picture from the listing was also in Atlanta Homes and Lifestyles, photography by Erica George Dines).
I love it when a beautiful home is listed for sale, because then I get to see what the home looks like on the inside. Would the interior of this particular home match the beauty and charm of the exterior? When I returned home I immediately looked at the real estate listing, and was amazed to see magazine worthy picture after picture of beautifully designed interiors.
realestate_kitchen
Here is a picture of the kitchen, from the real estate listing. It looked somewhat familiar to me. I read the text of the listing, and saw that the kitchen has been featured in Southern Accents. I immediately recognized it from the Southern Accents 'Top 10 Kitchens' feature. There are some real beauties among the Southern Accents kitchen selections, and the kitchen from this home is one of my favorites. The kitchen is elegant without being too dressy, and I love the soft blue color on the walls, the beams on the ceilings, and just the right mix of windows and cabinetry. The upholstered chairs are covered in outdoor fabric for easy clean up, making them a very family friendly. The interior design is by Savannah designer Gwyn Duggan.
Here is the picture from the Southern Accents website. It is styled a bit differently; a bowl of apples is on the table (the bowl is on the island in the real estate picture), the dishes in the cabinets are arranged differently, and a smaller arrangements of hydrangeas are on the island, not the table. Tomatoes are by the sink instead of hydrangeas.
kitch_side
A view of the kitchen from the side. I love the hood over the stove, and the ornament above the range. I also really like the lighting over the island - pendants with classic pleated shades.
sideview
So let's take a look at the rest of the house. A side view captures the sheer size of the home. It is sited on a corner lot, and the street slopes down. The garages can be seen on the ground floor, to the left of the chimney. According to the tax records, the home was built in 2006 and has over 6,000 square feet. I always admire homes that look small from the outside, but are actually quite large (and I admire architects who can achieve this vision).
entry
The front hall features a beautiful antique mirror and a lantern from the superb Atlanta lighting store Edgar-Reeves.
stairs
Given my recent interest in clocks, I noticed the painted clock on the landing right away. I love the look of a bench and a lantern in a entry too. I don't get a feel for where the stairs are located in this home. (This picture from the listing was also in Atlanta Homes and Lifestyles, photography by Erica George Dines).
famrm
The family room opens to the kitchen.
sit
A picture from the real estate listing shows a cozy little sitting area that also looks like it is off the kitchen. The chandelier is from Circa Lighting.
butlers
A gorgeous butler's pantry with mirrored walls and copper countertops (Via Atlanta Homes and Lifestyles, photography by Erica George Dines).
dr
The dining room features a David Iatesta chandelier, and the chairs are part of the Dan Carithers Collection for Sherrill Furniture. (Via Atlanta Homes and Lifestyles, photography by Erica George Dines).
hse_back
A view of the back, from the real estate listing. The bay window under the balcony looks like it might be the sitting area off the kitchen, which would mean that the three windows to the right are over the sink in the kitchen.
pool
There is a great pool in the backyard.
For more information on the home, please see the real estate listing. It is priced at $3,395,000, which I think is an incredible price given the location, the age of the home, the level of detail, and the top tier architects used to design the house.
So, what do you think? I think it is a beautiful house, although I can't get a feel for the floorplan (maybe one of you can guess how this house flows). My favorite room is the kitchen - no surprise given that it received top 10 honors from Southern Accents!

  1. Is the dog in the foyer real? I can't tell! I think my favorite part of the house is the butler's pantry. I could never keep those copper counter tops & the mirrored walls sparkly clean, but if I could afford a house like this, I could also afford someone to clean them for me. :)

  2. This is my kind of home, very comfortable and liveable. I love all of the lighting, and yes crave those unique countertops like the copper ones. You would never know it is 6000 sq feet!

  3. This home is so lovely. It was also featured in Atlanta Homes not too long ago. Pretty good marketing plan!

  4. Search the address (from the listing site) in live.com and see the "bird's eye view." It shows the house in mid renovation. It is huge but the bulk is broken into 3 chunks which keep it from being so bulky. Between the street facing chunk and the rear Dutch colonial chunk there is a large connecting chunk where the stair / palladian window is (and much more I'm sure). It's on a corner lot so it shows more of it's good looks to passers by.

  5. Those wing chairs in the kitchen in the first photo are quite something. And so white, I'm just trying to imagine long that would last, but they definitely add some serious drama to that kitchen! As do the plaid toppers, I don't usually do plaid in drapery but actually in a kitchen it works.

  6. Another lovely post.
I must show this one to Steve. This home has some wonderful architectural details.
I was surprised by the side view of the home. I agree with you, it looks much smaller from the front.
I was also surprised that I liked the blue in the kitchen, but it really is beautiful.
The David Iatesta chandelier is one of my favorites.
I am hoping to be able to use it in a project one day.

  7. A stunning home that I can only drool over unless I win the lottery. The house looks so approachable and modest from the outside but is a real monster. What an incredible spot! Great find.

I am going to steal two of the photos, if that's okay, as they show brown-ish chairs that are just what I've been looking for!

    I love the puppy...

P.S. Think you can get hubby to buy this one? ;)

  9. Thank you for the comments, everyone! I love making a connection between a house on the market and a magazine feature. A great thing about living in Atlanta is that so many of the houses in the design magazines are in Atlanta, and I get to drive or walk by them on an almost daily basis.

I would love to see the master bedroom and bathroom in this house...I wonder what they look like?

I do love the area that this house is in, but alas, a $3 million plus home is not in the cards right now.

  10. I love that butlers pantry too, and I agree with Erin, if you lived there you probably would not have to clean those walls yourself. I wish they did show the bedrooms too. This house it a bit formal for me, but beautifully done.

  11. According to AH&L magazine, the dog is their pet and loves to hang out in the foyer!

Most of these pictures were also in AH&L magazine last year, and they are using them in the listing (understandably!). I really wish there were some pictures that show how the rooms flow from one to another; magazine pictures tend to highlight a room, not the floorplan.

I checked out the aerial view (thanks Terry) and it is very interesting - the house looks like it has a narrow center section that connects the front and the back.

  12. This home is stunning and the kitchen sublime. I love the wing back chairs and stool around the table. xv

  13. My own decorating style is more contemporary casual - but that probably has a lot more to do with the kinds of things I can afford, including the homes I live in! Now if I had THAT home, I'd want it decorated just the way it is - perfect, really! Architecturally, I love how the side and back of the house is clad differently from the front - and the style, while it relates, suggests an addition to a manner house. Beautiful!

  17. The AH&L article said those white chairs are covered in outdoor fabric - which is acrylic, isn't it? Spills just bead off. I think it is a great idea for a home with young children.

  28. A stunning home . I posted photo with the dog few weeks ago and I've got an email from Editorial Director, Atlanta Homes that I've credited the image wrongly.Very scary. He produced that photo shoot and knew better. I really got a lesson how to credit properly. But anyway house is beautiful.

I'm really bad at figuring out floor plans, so I won't be any help to you there, sorry.

LOVE the copper countertop. I want a copper countertop in our kitchen, but hubby thinks it's a crazy idea. Men!! ;-)

To answer your question about the chandelier in my living room -- it's called Sausalito and I bought it from Bellacor:

    Thanks for the tour.

  47. * Well, I found something, about this particular home & these spaces, to be "unUsually pretty"... you know, without all the extraneous "stuff" cluttering up one's mind and vision~~~ just quietly elegant & more "refined" than maybe "expected", and certainly just as calm and beautiful as can be! Fell "in lust at first sigh"t with the kitchen... it just SPEAKES to me. ( And I THINK it was saying "Buy me ~ I'd SOOO like you in my life!".... And oh, that I COULD!))... THANK YOU SOOOO MUCH for this "special" treat! Warmly, Linda

  52. Thanks for the comments, everyone!

I too wonder why people put beautiful houses on the market, but there are some people who just like to move every few years, they enjoy the challenge of the build or renovation.

The Atlanta Homes and Lifestyles article said that the owners are 'developers of luxury homes along the coast of South Carolina and Georgia'. They lived on a private island near Savannah, where their 7300 square foot 'dream home' was struck by lightning and burned to the ground. They moved to Atlanta as the husband had grown up here, and they wanted to live closer to family. So who knows, maybe they are moving back to Savannah, maybe they are moving on to the next challenge.

For every home that is put on the market in this tough time, you know there is a story behind the sale.

  53. It looks so much like the Katillac Shack I can't believe it! I and my loyal bassett hound ride our property everyday and think how lucky we are to be Patrician in rank. Check out the Katillac Shack and you will see what I mean!

Seriously: As a designer of 20 years I find the use of French Gray absolutely stunning. It gives depth to the mono-chromatic rooms and allows the details to come forward. Fresh. Fresh!!! Nice feature....
