I have blogged about my love of chandeliers and sconces many times over the years; now that the house build is well underway, and the architectural design is set, we are starting to scout out some of the lighting selections for the new house. Here are a few that are under consideration for the bathrooms (there were more, but these are the ones that stand out in my mind).

It’s interesting seeing all of these together in one post. They are being considered for different areas of the house (and we have not yet discussed decorative sconces for the living room and hallways), but there is certainly a balance of the clean straight lines and sinuous curves. What a conincidence I was searching for 'gold sconce' on ebay today...I didnt find anything as beautiful as the selection you have here. My favourites are the lantern and the french horn...
ReplyDeleteLove the first one from Waterworks! And the lantern too. How I love to pick out lighting. Spent hours deciding what to use in my house. We have no cans on the main level or second floor (cans only in the basement) so I had to pick out a lot of lights - totally fun. I did make a couple of booboos I would change now - but lights are an easy switch. Have fun!

ReplyDeleteAdore your choices...we have such similar tastes! Love the top three fixtures in this post the most...we have the second Bryant sconce flanking a mirror in a powder room bathroom and I just love the look of those wall mounted lanterns, we have 4 similar interior ones and several outside as well. To me this was the best part of our renovation project (and the easiest!).

I'm voting the Circa Bryant sconce. But we're planning on using them or Shades of Light's very similar sconce. We'll have 4 sconces and the 4 light chandelier in antique brass.

My mind turns to mush when faced with all the lighting choices. I lean toward the old look rather than the shiny look. We have several sets of little shades that we've rotated through the years.
ReplyDeleteurban electric melissa is my fave by far, but i bet the circa bryant will look almost as pretty and be significantly cheaper. i also LOVE (and have used) the circa tall linear lantern- it's a whole different look, though. it's fab in a powder room!

Love the tall lantern. Interesting to me that these are also transitional. Very clean lines. A few posts a go you were wondering about using inswing casements windows to make the architecture more authentically European. I like the idea of clean lines mixed with some of the more rustic materials and European elements you are using. Nice contrast.

ReplyDeleteLove the Urban Elec. Co options! We just bought an 1850s farmhouse in Griffin that was renovated in the 20s by Ivey & Crook. I am starting to compile ideas for a powder room addition that would be in keeping with character of the house. I think something like this would be great!

ReplyDeleteThe lantern is gorgeous! And the Urban electric are so simple but glam at the same time. I also like the oil rubbed bronze sconce. When we moved into our home 5 years ago, it had all builder-finish crappy fixtures and I changed every last fixture to oil rubbed bronze along with the door hardware throughout. I'll never tire of oil rubbed bronze. It's warm and inviting.

The Deco from circa is my favorite. Lighting can be so hard to figure out. There are so many nice choices now, compared to years ago.

ReplyDeletei love the melissa i have them in my dining room- they don't give off much light so keep that in mind for a bath. had the wilshire sconce in my guest bath in my old house- it was very pretty. now renovating a new house and have chosen the ruhlman for my powder room! have fun lighting is my favorite task.

Really enjoyed your blog with photos of rooms on lighting issues. I have never been a fan of can lights - not only don't they look good, but the lighting is much different than a light fixure provides. For me, can lights are acceptable in moderation in kitchens, bathrooms and hallways and for highlighting art. Sconces, chandeliers and lamps provide much better light and there is such a huge selection on the market today. Unfortunately, many times little attention is given to lighting, and plug outlets when people build a home.
