Monday inspiration

I came across this picture of a door in Charleston while researching a post...a little Monday inspiration!  I love a colorful door, and this one is particularly appealing.  What would you call it - apricot or melon?

Iron gates of Charleston

Sword gate, Charleston, SC

I have always had a fascination with beautiful iron gates. Charleston, South Carolina has some of my favorite gates...they are truly works of art, wrought iron sculptures that guard the beautiful gardens and homes of Charleston. Take a stroll around Charleston, and you will see many tourists looking longingly through the gates, catching a small glimpse of what lies beyond.

I am particularly partial to the gates in Charleston because so many of them use a scroll motif, which is one of my favorite designs. Also found in many of the gates are fleur-de-lis, leaf and flower patterns, and circles are often incorporated into the design.

Beautiful ironwork appears all over Charleston...in balconies, gates, stair railings, vents, boot scrapes, and decorative panels and finials. The ironwork, and its fine craftmanship, are among the greatest of Charleston's architectural treasures.
