I think the folds of fabric add a crispness and an element of texture to a room. Even standard mushroom pleats are beautiful. However, I also own drum and bell shades. I think the beauty is really in the mix and layering. So hard to find a pretty lamp these days because as you said, they are decked all out with drum shades. Besides the fact I just don't care for the look of the drum shade AT ALL (yes, that's totally personal preference) I hate how Susan (Between Naps On The Porch.net)https://www.blogger.com/profile/09655622740971576915noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3422669494853882483.post-74604735718733674802013-11-08T12:15:27.400-05:002013-11-08T12:15:27.400-05:00I love pleated lamp shades! I love details, so plain drum shades popular now don't speak to me, and really do remind me of ones from the late '50s that my Mom thought so modern. But, even then, Mom's shades had detail like tone on tone stenciling inside that looked like a barely there pattern when the lamps were lit. These days, drum shades are often just paper, and appear Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3422669494853882483.post-67279482893607393272013-11-04T13:51:45.994-05:002013-11-04T13:51:45.994-05:00Holly, the Belgian designer Natalie Haegerman crea...Holly, the Belgian designer Natalie Haegerman creates her own pleated shades similar to the ones you've here. I have a lighting and lampshade store, and currently sales are running about 60% pleated and 40% flatcover/hardback. I now live in Atlanta, and I see them in many stores. There are many lighting stores that stock pleated shades almost exclusively, so that might be the local preference. Many of the designers you featured are from Atlanta.Janenoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3422669494853882483.post-43205958653807014032013-11-04T11:23:27.544-05:002013-11-04T11:23:27.544-05:00Gorgeous, Holly! Lamp shades are one of those small details that I think often get overlooked in the overall decorating of a room but I enjoy a beautifully pleated shade or other custom work such as a hand-painted or embellished shade. dianehttp://jenrick1.wordpress.comnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3422669494853882483.post-25085905375954719472013-11-04T11:12:00.721-05:002013-11-04T11:12:00.721-05:00I think they are classic but looking to fussy for ...I think they are classic but looking to fussy for the styles now.
